Building Effective Site Taxonomies
Feed: Featured Blog Posts - Data Science Central. Author: Kurt A Cagle. Several years ago, the typical company website fit into a predefined template - a home or landing page (usually talking about how innovative the company was), a products page, a business client testimonials page, a blog, and an "about us" page. However, as the number of products or services have multiplied, and as the demands for supporting those services have followed suit, your readers had to spend more time and energy finding appropriate content - and web managers had to focus more on keeping things organized than they ... Amazon Textract announces quality updates to its tables extraction feature
Feed: Recent Announcements. Amazon Textract is a machine learning service that makes it easy to extract text and data from virtually any document. We continuously improve the underlying machine learning models based on customer feedback to provide even better accuracy. Today, we are pleased to announce a quality enhancement to our table recognition feature. Starting today, Textract more accurately detects the outer boundaries, row and column boundaries, and content of tables. The accuracy is especially improved for the tables in receipts and invoices, but you will see improvements across many documents in finance, healthcare, legal, and public sector. This update ... Detect abnormal equipment behavior with Amazon Lookout for Equipment — now generally available
Feed: Recent Announcements. Today, Amazon Lookout for Equipment is generally available to all AWS customers. Amazon Lookout for Equipment is a machine learning (ML) industrial equipment monitoring service that detects abnormal equipment behavior so customers can take action and avoid unplanned downtime. Predictive maintenance can be an effective way to avoid industrial machinery failures and expensive downtime by proactively monitoring the condition of your equipment, so you can be alerted to any anomalies before equipment failures occur. Installing sensors and the necessary infrastructure for data connectivity, storage, analytics, and alerting are the foundational elements for enabling predictive maintenance solutions. However, ... Amazon Fraud Detector automates sampling for imbalanced model training datasets
Feed: Recent Announcements. Amazon Fraud Detector is a fully managed service that makes it easy to identify potentially fraudulent online activities, such as the creation of fake accounts or online payment fraud, using customized machine learning (ML) models. To train an ML model, customers provide a dataset that contains examples of legitimate and fraudulent events related to the business activity they want to evaluate for fraud risk. These fraud datasets are often highly imbalanced. For example, a dataset containing one million past transactions may only include 5,000 fraudulent ones, corresponding to a fraud rate of 0.5%. This imbalance in the ... Read More

Simple Machine Learning Approach to Testing for Independence
Feed: Featured Blog Posts - Data Science Central. Author: Vincent Granville. We describe here a methodology that applies to any statistical test, and illustrated in the context of assessing independence between successive observations in a data set. After reviewing a few standard approaches, we discuss our methodology, its benefits, and drawbacks. The data used here for illustration purposes, has known theoretical auto-correlations. Thus it can be used to benchmark various statistical tests. Our methodology also applies to data with high volatility, in particular, to time series models with undefined autocorrelations. Such models (see for instance Figure 1 in this article) ... Read More
AWS Glue now supports missing value imputation based on machine learning
Feed: Recent Announcements. AWS Glue now offers missing value imputation on incomplete datasets. You can use the Fill Missing Values transform to get predicted values for blank entries in a column of your data. This feature makes it easy to clean datasets that have null or empty values so that they don’t need to be accounted for at query time. Fill Missing Values is a new ML Transform in AWS Glue that learns patterns from the complete rows in your dataset and predicts values for missing data in a column you specify. It works on both categorical and numerical data ... Read More
How Radware CNP Uses Amazon Route 53 Query Logging for Threat Detection

Feed: AWS Partner Network (APN) Blog. Author: Yuval Shapira. By Yuval Shapira, Security Research Team Leader at RadwareBy Amnon Lotem, Head of Data Science at Radware Amazon Web Services (AWS) recently launched a new feature as part of its Amazon Route 53 service, called Route 53 Resolver Query Logging. This new service enables organizations to retrieve logs of their Domain Name System (DNS) queries originating from resources within their virtual private clouds (VPCs). Analysis of these logs can be a great help for detecting malicious activity within an organization’s accounts. This post describes how these logs can be analyzed as ... Read More
